Kalpana Lazmi’s film Chingaari is based upon a short story by Bhupen Hazarika. The story of the film mainly revolves around three character – Basanti (played by Sushmita Sen), Chandan (played by Anuj Sawhney) and Bhuvan Panda (played by Mithun). The bottom line of the film is women empowerment.
The story is about Basanti (Sushmita Sen), who is a sex worker. She falls in love with the young village post man Chandan (Anuj Sawhney). Chandan (Anuj Sawhney) is a very good human being and he is always there for Basanti whenever she needs him. He loves her so much that he can do anything for her. He always listens to whatever she has to say and also fights for her rights. Bhuvan Panda (Mithun), the village priest, on the other hand, believes that women like Basanti have no right to fall in love with anyone. Therefore, when he comes to know about the relationship between Basanti and Chandan, he starts to create problems in their lives.
Anuj Sawhney’s performance in the movie is admired by all. In fact, his fans were really glad to see him play a serious character, because until now, they had always seen him only in comedy films like Nayee Padosan, Tom Dick and Harry etc.
In ‘Chingaari’ Anuj Sawhney has very successfully proved his versatility in acting. His fans are eagerly waiting to watch some more superb performances by him in his upcoming films.
